MAFA’s silos are manufactured from high-quality steel with a protective coating for long service life and high resistance to corrosion. The two most common materials are Alu Zinc and Galfan. Both provide strong corrosion protection, but they differ slightly in composition and appearance.
Alu Zinc – Durable and Corrosion-Resistant
Alu Zinc is steel coated with an alloy of aluminium, zinc and silicon. This combination provides highly effective protection against corrosion and a long service life, even in demanding environments.

Appearance:
Alu Zinc has a silver-grey tone with a lightly crystallised pattern on the surface.
Galfan – Smooth Surface and High Wear Resistance
Galfan is steel coated with zinc and aluminium, providing excellent protection against rust while also making the material resistant to wear and scratches.

Appearance:
Galfan typically has a lighter and more uniform silver colour compared with Alu Zinc.
Colour Difference Between the Silo Sheets
Because the materials have different compositions, they can also differ in colour:
- Alu Zinc: slightly darker silver-grey tone
- Galfan: lighter and more polished silver surface
This affects only the appearance – both materials are high quality and offer a long service life. Over time, both Alu Zinc and Galfan will develop a more matt surface as a natural part of the ageing process. This is completely normal and does not affect the material’s protective properties or service life.
